Atlas Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 14, 2026
Atlas is local-first. Your travel map, visits, trips, wishlist, goals, imports, and settings are stored on your device unless you choose to export, back up, restore, or share them.
Atlas does not require an account. Atlas does not use tracking. Atlas does not sell your data.
Photos
Photo access is optional. If you grant access, Atlas checks photo dates and locations on your device so it can find places for your map. You decide what gets added. Atlas does not upload your original photos.
You can use selected photos, recent photos, or a full photo backlog scan. You can also deny Photos access and add visits manually.
Maps, Search, And Place Names
Atlas uses Apple Maps, MapKit search, and Apple geocoding services for maps, manual place search, and converting coordinates into human-readable place names. When you use those features, Apple may process the search text, coordinates, or map requests needed to return results. Atlas does not send your Atlas database to a Stammen Technology server.
Explore Images
The Explore tab can show country card photos loaded from Wikimedia Commons. Loading those images may make a request to Wikimedia for the image URL. Attribution links may also open public source or license pages such as Commons, Wikivoyage, Creative Commons, GNU, Art Libre, or Flickr. These requests are for public country imagery and attribution only; Atlas does not include your local visits, notes, photos, or settings in those image or attribution requests.
Location
Atlas may request Location permission for drive recording or another location feature you start. Routes and places stay local unless you export, back up, or share them.
Backups And Exports
Manual backups are started by you. Automatic iCloud Drive snapshots are off by default and only run if you turn them on. These snapshots are versioned recovery files, not account sync.
Exported backups, compare snapshots, PDFs, and share cards leave the device only when you start that action and choose where to send or save the file.
Purchases
Atlas Pro purchases and restores are handled by Apple StoreKit. Your travel history is not tied to the purchase record. Atlas backups do not transfer an Atlas Pro entitlement; use Restore Purchases with the Apple Account that bought Atlas Pro.
Widgets
Atlas widgets use a shared app container on your device so the widget can show your current progress. Widget data is generated locally by Atlas.
Deleting Data
Atlas includes local delete-all-data controls. Deleting data removes local Atlas records from the device. Files you already exported, shared, or backed up outside the app may still exist wherever you saved them.
Support
If you email support, your email address and anything you include in the message are handled through Stammen Technology support email. Do not send private photos, backups, or location files unless you intentionally want them reviewed for support.
